Sustainability in the plastics industry
Strong together for a sustainable future
We walk the path to a green future with you. We have been developing solutions for sustainable plastics processing for over 15 years - sustainability is a fundamental pillar of entrepreneurial activity for ENGEL. Cost-effectiveness, ethical conduct, social responsibility, and environmental protection are anchored in our values.
"Green is more than a color"
Together with our customers, we develop injection molding solutions for resource-preserving and energy-efficient plastic processing. With "be the first" we express that as a family-owned company, we are a stable employer for our employees. We create a work environment that allows our team members to enjoy their work while bringing their full potential to fruition in pursuit of the company’s goals.
"We are aware of our responsibility. A world with sustainable plastics is not only possible but necessary."
ENGEL Sustainability Goals
Verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
In 2023, ENGEL committed to the SBTi – a non-profit climate protection initiative that supports companies in setting science-based climate targets. With our ENGEL sustainability goals, we are aligning ourselves with the Paris Climate Agreement and contributing to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to limit global warming to a maximum of 1.5 °C.
ENGEL will halve its greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and 2) generated at ENGEL sites by 2030 and reduce them by an additional 90% by 2050 to achieve net zero. (Base year 2022)
ENGEL will reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused in the upstream and downstream supply chain (Scope 3) by 42% by 2030 and by 90% by 2050 to achieve net zero. (Base year 2022)
Strong partner in the supply chain
The sustainability goal is further supported by close cooperation between companies along the value chain. Market players network on platforms to exchange information and data: from raw material production and processing to recycling and even further towards retail and the consumer.
Environmental Social Governance
Our vision is a sustainable and, at the same time, profitable plastics industry. End consumers worldwide should be able to trust that they are using clean plastic products in their everyday lives. Products that are manufactured in a resource-preserving way and whose supply or value chains are ethically correct. This is how we ensure prosperity, especially for our successor generations.

FAQ
ENGEL defines sustainability in plastics processing as the integration economic efficiency, ethical conduct, social responsibility, and environmental protection. For over 15 years, ENGEL has been developing solutions for resource-efficient production, the use of recycled materials, and closing material cycles. Specifically, this means machines and digital technologies that conserve resources, increase energy efficiency, and optimize processes through intelligent automation.
In 2023, ENGEL committed to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) establishing science-based sustainability goals. By 2030, ENGEL aims to halve greenhouse gas emissions at its locations (Scope 1 & 2) are to be halved and further reduced by 90% by 2050 to achieve net zero (base year 2022). Greenhouse gas emissions generated in the upstream and downstream supply chain (Scope 3) are targeted for reduction as well—by 42% by 2030 and by 90% by 2050—to achieve net zero (base year 2022).
Sustainability in plastics starts with the process: Energy-efficient injection molding machines such as the e-mac or e-motion reduce power consumption by up to 70% compared to hydraulic machines.
As a provider of comprehensive solutions, ENGEL also offers specific technologies for more sustainable plastics processing: skinmelt technology enables the production of sandwich components with up to 50% recycled content, while foilmelt technology allows for components made with up to 100% recycled raw material.
In addition, digital assistance systems such as iQ flow control reduce energy consumption for temperature control in existing plants by up to 60%. This means sustainability can be achieved not only with new machines but also directly during ongoing operations.
ENGEL recognizes its responsibility for sustainability within the circular economy and actively supports it by using closed-loop material cycles and partnerships along the value chain. Customers benefit from free material analyses, digital efficiency tools, and the ability to process up to 100% recycled material.
Yes. For customers with existing plants, ENGEL offers digital solutions such as iQ flow control, which can lower energy consumption in temperature control by up to 60%—without requiring investment in a new machine. iQ weight control can help compensate for material-related process fluctuations, particularly when processing recycled materials, thereby reducing rejects. This conserves resources and improves material efficiency.
Sustainability in plastics processing often begins during ongoing operations, not just when the next investment decision is made.
